It’s My Write: Three Influential Writers is a poster series created for an event, highlighting the unique styles of the featured authors while offering fresh interpretations of their impact in the literary world.
This poster series, featuring authors Toni Morrison, Gabriel García Márquez, and Rabindranath Tagore, explores the use of distorted typography to evoke literary themes. By employing black-and-white typography and figure-ground reversal as key techniques, each poster creates a visual narrative. The result is a cohesive system that captivates interest through innovative interpretations of each author's significance.
CREATE MOVEMENT
To complement the poster series, a marketing video was created to bring the static elements to life through subtle motion. This concept translates the posters' minimalist yet intricate design into animation, preserving the stylized interplay of typography and imagery.
Designed for projection on a wall or display on a monitor in a public space, the animation offers a visually engaging experience. With its simple yet evocative approach, it guides viewers on a seamless journey while staying true to the original composition of the 2D posters.
THE PROCESS
Sketching Preliminary Layouts of Design
The process began with rough sketches to explore the balance between text and imagery, focusing on layout, spacing, and hierarchy to create a cohesive and effective design.
Applying Texture
With a preferred sketch selected for each author, the next phase focused on adding texture to the imagery. Strips of paper featuring the authors’ book titles were cut by hand, photographed, and digitally manipulated to achieve the final visual effect.
Digital Iterations
The digital iterative process explored a range of combinations and adjustments to seamlessly integrate the sketched concepts with the developed textures.
Creating Motion
To create the final motion graphic, bird imagery from a Gabriel García Márquez poster was animated across nine keyframes. Each frame captures fluid movement while exploring how information can emerge in a visually engaging and dynamic way.
