Speculative Currency is project focused futuristic system that utilizes AI and VR to create a currency where persons wealth is based on the amount of experiences they have exchanged.
The Amalgam Archive Currency operates in a fantasy realm where memories and experiences are exchanged. It allows users to access and relive cherished moments, fostering a deeper connection to emotions, wisdom, and empathy. Memories can only be shared a limited number of times, and one’s lifespan is extended through the exchange of experiences.
Amalgam Ring
Every person, upon birth, receives an AM-RING created by the AI integrated into society. Once activated (by tapping the top of the ring twice), the ring reveals an archive book containing their own memories, along with any additional ones they've gathered from others, in a virtual/holographic card format.
When a card is selected, the technology enables the visual sharing of memories. Advanced AI systems transform these memories into lifelike virtual reality experiences, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in others' perspectives.

Educational institutions use the Amalgam Archive Currency to teach history and social studies, allowing students to relive past events for deeper understanding. Medical professionals use it to enhance empathy toward patients, improving care through shared experiences. Artists infuse their creations with authentic emotions, creating work that resonates deeply with those who encounter it. In this world, the Amalgam Archive Currency transcends trade to become a cornerstone of society.
While traditional money still exists and is used to purchase necessities such as food, water, and shelter, it is considered secondary. True wealth is reflected in one’s Archive, which showcases the knowledge and experiences they’ve acquired. The Amalgam Archive Currency serves as a reminder that our connections with others are what truly enrich our lives.
THE PROCESS
Literary Relevance
To begin, a thought-provoking excerpt from a significant piece of literature was selected to inspire reflection.
Imagery Exploration
Drawing inspiration from the central themes of the book, a series of over 30 images were created, each exploring a variety of mediums. These pieces examine different artistic approaches, offering a diverse interpretation of the themes and providing a deeper visual representation of the narrative's core ideas.
Choosing Base Imagery
After careful consideration, one image was selected for further exploration in the card design. Originally created physically in a screen print lab, the image was then transformed and brought into the digital space.
AI and Editing
The imagery was imported into a generative AI program to develop cohesive visuals, which were then refined and altered in Adobe Illustrator to create the final product.
