Wander Wise is an app that promotes sustainable travel and helps users explore new destinations with the assistance of generative AI, creating personalized and imaginative experiences.

This collaborative project with Jae Carver, alongside Jerrell Francisco, Cal Jaques, and Shima Daina, brought together experts from various disciplines to develop an AI-integrated travel app aimed at enhancing the user experience and introducing generative AI in an engaging way. Jae's key contributions included conceptualization, developing user flows, and designing wireframe layouts.

GOALS AND POINTS OF DIFFERENCE

  • Dream Mode for creative exploration and Reality Mode to turn ideas into actionable plans.

  • Integrated AI uses user preferences to recommend destinations worldwide, actively encouraging travel to lesser-visited places to help combat over-tourism.

  • Streamlines highly personalized travel planning, making it easy for users to avoid cross-referencing multiple sources.

  • Social media-inspired interface for travel inspiration, keeping users engaged.

  • Integrates resources on sustainable travel, promoting eco-friendly practices like carbon footprint reduction, deforestation, pollution, and unsustainable consumption based on the user's interests.

Task Flows

THE PROCESS

Ideation

After deciding to focus on travel, the next step was identifying areas where existing travel apps could improve the user experience and exploring how to introduce generative AI in an engaging way.

Research

Primary and secondary research were conducted to better understand potential users, what they value most in current travel apps, the environmental concerns related to travel, and where AI could be integrated to streamline the overall experience.

Benchmarking

We began assessing other travel platforms for their UI/UX systems, identifying what made them successful and how AI had already been integrated into their user experience.

Journey Map & Storyboards

Focus on the user’s journey, from the moment they decide to travel to the outcome after using the app. Emphasize how highlighting sustainability and integrating generative AI can work together, while still including all the essential features users value in a travel app.

System Maps and Information Archetiecutre

Developed system maps to guide the information architecture and determine how users would interact with each component.

Wireframes

Explored and tested preliminary layouts and user flows to identify design decisions that most effectively contribute to user satisfaction and sustained engagement. This involved evaluating navigation patterns, interface hierarchy, and interactive elements to ensure a seamless and intuitive experience that aligns with user expectations and behavior.

Developing the Visual System

Explored various UI applications and theoretical branding concepts that capture what Wander Wise aims to accomplish through the use of color, imagery, and typography.
